SwatchPop! Beach House Renovation: Choosing the Best Neutral Paints with Behr

As we all know, renovations can be a nightmare. We partnered with Behr Paint on the SwatchPop! beach house project to make the painting process as easy as possible. Their neutral color choices are amazing, y'all. We went with Behr Premium Plus ULTRA Toasty Gray and Campfire Ash on the interior walls and Sleek White for the trim. On the exterior we chose Chain Reaction and Lunar Surface paired with Ivory Palace trim. Read on to see why we made our selections and see these beautiful colors come to life!

If you follow us on social media, you probably heard that our co-founder, Kristen, had some MAJOR work to do on her beloved beach house after a flood earlier this year. And we're not talking about a little water. We're talking real damage. Serious damage. The floors had to be ripped out. Much of the drywall had to be replaced or repaired. Bathrooms gutted. Basically, a homeowner's nightmare.

The good news...Kristen has been wanting to change things up for a while. Since it's a rental property, it's always been tough to find the right time for updates. So, while her first instinct was panic, she's now embracing this mess as the perfect opportunity for home improvement.

So, where do you begin when you're starting from scratch? One of the toughest parts of decorating is choosing the right paint colors. You want to make sure the color isn't too dark or light in a space. You also want to make sure that the color looks good in all lighting throughout the day. The paint color should complement all the furnishings and decor. And that's no easy task. So many factors to consider!

Kristen is a working mom. Translation: life is already too busy and there's no extra time in the day to look at 30 different paint samples and make such BIG decisions so she turned the paint color selection over to our SwatchPop! designers and they went to Behr for the best neutral paint colors. Y'all, the colors are PERFECTION.

Her SwatchPop! designer gave her some beautiful color choices to consider before testing them on the walls of the beach house. While testing colors in the actual space is key to picking the right color, online design helped make the decision EASIER by recommending certain colors that will work with the decor and finishes. So much easier than picking colors to test when there are hundreds of neutral paint colors available today.

The majority of the room has cool color tones plus a few warmer tones in the natural wood finishes and decor throughout the home so we chose paint colors that have both cool and warm tones to be as neutral as possible. Since this home is located on the beach in Florida was a coastal/beach vibe, we used gray and white paints.

Choosing exterior colors is a MAJOR commitment. You don't want to get it wrong. Our SwatchPop! designer recommended Chain Reaction and Lunar Surface from Behr. Both are deeper grays with blue undertones that looks beautiful in this coastal community. Behr's premium paint doesn't weather or fade, which is especially important for the beach house because of the amount of salt in the air. Living by the beach takes a toll on the exterior of a home so we needed a paint that was durable enough to withstand all the elements of the beach.
