Hi Melissa! Here is the layout solution I think would work best with your space along with the desk styling. I added in some bonus shelf styling as I felt it was best to keep the desk pretty minimal so you can have ample work space. I hope this helps bring the office together! If you have any questions, feedback or need alternatives for any items please contact me via the chat screen which will stay open for 7 days after you receive this solution. (Also, if you would like to be matched with me for your next project you can leave me a 4 star or above rating and also enter my designer referral code of "HannahHagler" in your future projects.) I look forward to working with you again! -Hannah
This layout should really open up the space and make your working area the focus of it all. By putting the turquoise drawers on the right side wall and flanking them with the chairs, you create an almost "sitting area" type space. I would keep the existing drawers and printer in the nook - I totally get wanting to hide that, and think it's a perfect space for that. (If you would like to add a rug to the space I would recommend a 5'x7' or 4'x6' size.)
This option gets rid of a few pieces and adds some new ones. (Side note: I think Option 1 is just as good, but wanted to give you another option to work with.) This one uses that back corner as a sitting nook with an accent chair and table lamp, gets rid of the drawers in the nook and the two chairs. This also adds a second bookshelf to add to the other side of the desk which will give you a little more storage to make up for the missing pieces. I would not do the floating shelves in this option as it might be too much with both bookshelves.
Floating shelves above the desk will add storage and an opportunity to accessorize. I recommend adding plants, vases, artwork, with small pops of color. That will really bring this space to life.
(Any existing artwork or accessories you have would work here, but I also sourced various options so you have some choices)
Your existing floating shelves should work here, especially if you can purchase a second longer one. Having the floating shelves above the desk allows the desk to be kept fairly minimal, while still having elements of decor. I've added some accessories that I think look nice, but of course you can work with what you have if preferred. The thing to keep in mind when styling the shelves is to have varying height levels as well as colors and textures.
